Home Batteries

Large battery systems can carry essential circuits for a day or more and recharge from solar. They are heavy, expensive and installed by licensed electricians, so the questions are different from a portable power station.

Whole-home systems are sized against the circuits you choose to back up, not the whole house. Add the loads you need through an outage and compare against the system's output (kW) and capacity (kWh). Most connect through a transfer switch or home panel; the maker, the installer and your local authority define what is allowed.

Public specifications are thinner for installer-sold systems, so we list only products whose figures we can source, and we say what is missing.
